Author Ehud Havazelet, a two-time Oregon Book Award winner and UO creative writing teacher, has been praised by the Times for working "with a kind of anatomic precision, his scalpel slicing at his characters to expose the dark reality beneath." Burdened by history and personal vices, his characters pursue the secrets behind a family member's murder, carrying with them generations of personal and public sorrow.

In addition to receiving the Ken Kesey Award for Fiction in the 2008 Oregon Book Awards for this book, his first novel, Havazelet also won an Oregon Book Award in 1999 for his short story collection, Like Never Before.
