Journalisr Jere Van Dyk, ‘68, was researching a book in Afghanistan when captured by the Taliban in February 2008. He spent forty-five days in captivity, an ordeal detailed in his book Captive, My Time as a Prisoner of the Taliban
 
Van Dyk was invited to campus last May to give the School of Journalism and Communication 2011 Ruhl Symposium Lecture, in which he shared his extraordinary experience.
