In a unique course called Latino Roots in Oregon, students experience a two-term intensive in cultural anthropology, ethnography and documentary filmmaking. Offered for the first time in 2011, it is now being offered again in 2013.
The goal is for each student to produce capston project in the form of a documentary oral history that tells the story of individual's or family's path from Latin America to Oregon.
Some students, like Byron Sun and Lidi Soto, tell the story of their own families, as shown in their documentaries immediately below. Others, like Scott Erdman, tell the story of friends and acquaintances (see third video below):
